Laurel Highlands Experience
Inspiring others to get outside, and connect with people and nature has been at the core of Hike By Faith’s mission since its start in 2013. As we grow it’s been our intention to also give back to the outdoor community.
During the early months of 2016, we began a partnership with Gear Forward. Its mission, to provide gear from donations to outfit the next generation of adventurers. Since then our partnership has grown. We have helped gather and deliver donated gear from around the country to youth organizations in the United States and Canada, but we want to do more. Gear Forward’s goal is to obtain donations and needs from all fifty states.
It was during a backpacking trip in the summer of 2016 when the idea for #LHX2017 was born. In April 2017 a crew from all over the United States and Canada came together for a week’s worth of backpacking and fellowship. Choose one of the two trips below to find out more information about each one, or keep reading to learn more about the history of LHX!

So, what is #LHX?
Well, let’s start with the name. The long version is Laurel Highlands Xperience. A five day, four-night backpacking adventure on the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail, seventy miles from the trailhead in Seward to Ohiopyle. The concept for the project is simple. Bring together a diverse team from all over the U.S. and Canada from the outdoor community known for their social media interaction, to connect in person on the trail sharing our experiences, skills, and ideas to inspire others to get outside, connect with nature, and connect with others. We begin our adventure on April 23, 2017.
Our second purpose for #LHX, work as a team to communicate, gather and deliver used or new hiking, backpacking and camping gear to support Gear Forward. Through our social media network and the local community, the team is reaching out to spread the word about this non-profit organization working to outfit the next generation of adventurers.
Through #LHX2017 it is our goal to encourage people to donate gear to Gear Forward. Each team member is giving back in their own way and reaching out to collect donated gear.
You can help in two ways: do you have a tent or sleeping bags in storage not being used? Do you know a non-profit organization, Scout Troop, or faith-based organization that is in need of camping gear for their programs?
Each member of the team has been hand-picked for their various outdoor skills. However, the main reason they have been chosen…they all have a desire to give back and pay it forward.
